EMDR for Trauma

Has something happened in your life that still haunts you?

Any life experience that creates substantial and lasting emotional or psychological damage to an individual is considered to be traumatic event. The types of events that can cause trauma vary widely.  Some of the most dramatic examples are natural disasters, rape, abuse, combat, or divorce. These, however, are not the only kind of events that are classified as potentially traumatic.  Individuals vary in their response to events. What proves unbearable to one can be only a difficult event to another.

When trauma occurs the event appears to be unchanged in its impact over time. The emotions remain no matter how much time goes by. The experience fails to become integrated in the form of useful learning and there are often lingering negative feelings toward the self.

EMDR is a scientifically validated process used to help restart an individual’s natural ability to heal from even the most difficult and stressful life experiences. The EMDR procedure seems to restore the ability of the individual’s nervous system to integrate the information in a useful form. The process helps the client to reprocess any lingering negative thoughts and feelings into more positive and affirming understandings. People often report feeling relieved and energized, as they are able to leave these emotional burdens behind them and move on.
